August and September are the rainy season in India, but this year the amount of rain has been heavy, and the sluice gates installed downstream of the Ganges River have not been properly adjusted, causing severe flooding in many areas. The area around our school has also been flooded, and students’ homes have suffered extensive damage. The sudden rise in water overnight forced them to flee with barely the clothes on their backs.
